The Value of adding an Independent Advisor to your team.

Before expanding on this service and why it might be helpful to you, let me start with a question:

What did Steve Jobs (Apple) and Eris Schmidt (Google) have in common?

While they had quite different personalities and management styles, they both led highly successful teams to $Trillion Dollar Market Cap companies. They did one thing in common that Eric Schmidt says was an important part of his success*. They engaged an independent advisor (the same person it turns out) to participate in their management meetings. This person brought his own perspectives, push back and suggestions to these meetings, which in the end made the meetings more effective and (when needed) more focussed. That person also brought a sense of humour which made them more enjoyable.

It takes a confident leader to recognize they can benefit from the advice of others and bring them into their team meetings. That confidence worked for the CEO’s of Google and Apple.

This is a role Mike has been engaged in with several companies over the last 5+ years. Calling upon his 40 years of experience leading technology firms, Mike engages with you and then your team in a spirit of constructive thinking. He also brings a good sense of humour…
Experience (good & bad) has taught him the risks of the being too optimistic and moving forward without the value of independent and objective analysis. Whether it is pushback on your current plans or suggestions that might improve them, Mike draws upon these experiences to help you ensure the leadership team is focussed on the issues and opportunities that matter and making the midstream adjustments often ignored, but fundamental to success.

While willing to engage in operational issues and efficiencies, his focus is on Growth and his experiences with this can help bring this focus to your team – including areas perhaps not considered as you are caught up with the daily routine of running your company.
